Biography

Giulio De Carlo, born in 1981 in Catanzaro, Italy. Flutist, choir director and composer of classical music, mostly for a cappella or accompained choir.

Over the years he has relentlessly sought to improve his skills, devoting himself to deepening his knowledge and understanding of classical music, especially choral.

He has deepened his knowledge by participating in numerous courses of specialization held by different teachers (Pier Paolo Scattolin, Walter Marzilli, Francesco Romano, Roberta Paraninfo, Francesco Acquista, Carmine Catenazzo, Lorenzo Donati, Manolo Da Rold, Mauro Marchetti, Z. Randall Stroope, Franco Radicchia, Matteo Valbusa, Paweł Łukaszewski, Ragnar Bohlin, Brandon A. Boyd).

From 2002 to 2015 he was actively involved with the Polyphonic Choir S. Antoniosupervising the musical formation of the vocal group.

Since 2015 he is the Director of the Polyphonic Choir Singing Cluster.

In 2017, he composed original soundtracks for two tragedies (Euripides’ Medea and a reinterpretation of Aeschylus’ Prometheus), commissioned by the Teatro di Calabria, Aroldo Tieri.

His compositional activity has led him to collaborate, in Italy and around the world, with famous conductors, artists and instrumentalists, who have performed on several occasions his works.

He has collaborated with the duo Two for New of Francesco Silvestri and Giovanni De Luca, with the Magna Graecia Flute Choir of the late Maestro Sebastiano Valentino and with the poets and lyricists Elisa Gastaldon and Charles Anthony Silvestri, producing several original works.

    Third place in the XVI national competition of composition of Christmas carols in Calabrian vernacular organized by the Organizazione Cori Calabria with the piece U pastureddhru.
  • October 2020international composition competition Nuove musiche dalla Livenza

    In October 2020 his piece "L’aquilone" received a special mention in the international composition competition Nuove musiche dalla Livenza. In the same month he has presented his piece "O magnum mysterium" during the reading session organized by the Italian Association of Choir Directors in Assisi (Perugia).

    In May 2021 his piece "L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle" received a special mention in the international composition competition "...a riveder le stelle" organized by the Italian Association of Choir Directors.
  • June 2021 USA Music Composition International Competition

    In June 2021 his piece "The hidden garden" received the Grand Prize at the USA Music Composition International Competition held by the International Youth Music Competitions - IYMC.
  • September 2021International Ave Verum Composition Competition 2021 – Baden

    On 14 September 2021 his Ave verum corpus received a special mention at the International Ave Verum Composition Competition 2021 – Baden.
  • December 2021International Music Competition held by the International Youth Music Competitions

    In December 2021 his piece "The hidden garden" won the “GOLD MEDAL ABSOLUTE WINNER USA ARTISTS OF THE YEAR” at the International Music Competition held by the International Youth Music Competitions - IYMC.
  • December 2021II National Competition of Composition and Elaboration of Texts and Christmas Songs

    On 30 December 2021 he won the second place at the II National Competition of Composition and Elaboration of Texts and Christmas Songs in Italian organized by the Organization Cori Calabria with the piece "Ecco, viene Natale".

    On 18 February 2022 his "Descendit de cælis" received a special mention at the First International Choral Composition Competition of Preveza 2022.
